After more than ten years working as a professional photographer, my focus gradually shifted towards painting. Not because photography lost its place in my life, but because I discovered that painting gives me the freedom to explore what truly resonates with me. While photography captures a moment, painting allows me to shape a story beyond what is visible.

I draw inspiration from fleeting moments, unexpected details and the quiet observations that often go unnoticed. Colour plays an important role in my work. Sometimes with a touch of humour, sometimes quietly contemplative, but always inspired by the extraordinary hidden within the ordinary.

SEPH, OUR GREAT SWISS MOUNTAIN HOUND

Our Greater Swiss Mountain Dog regularly checks in to see whether I am finally ready for a walk. Most of the time, he thinks I spend far too much time in my studio.

It’s nice having him around; I can have a good chat with him, and he doesn’t judge. Plus, every now and then, I’m forced to step away from work for a short walk.

As I write this, I realise I have it the wrong way round.

I am actually his biggest fan.

NAKED BOTTOMS IN THE STUDIO

You are never too old to learn. After a masterclass about drawing in Amsterdam, I came home with a whole stack of drawings of the human landscape. And yes, that mostly means a lot of naked bottoms.

I enjoy taking a course with artists whose work I admire. Not to copy their way of working, but to see my own work from a different perspective.

You almost always come home inspired.

TAKING A PEEK

Our home, and therefore my studio, is located on one of the streets in the centre of Putten. Because oil paint dries best in the light, there is often a new painting standing behind the window. Quite often, it is not even finished yet.

These days, I also like to add a short note. I have noticed that people enjoy taking a peek inside as they walk past.

And that is perfectly fine. You are welcome to peek into my studio anytime. I always wave back.
